We arrived at Overland Expo on Thursday, a little before noon. Even then, there was a line to check in. Because of the rain over the last couple of days, the usual campground area was too wet to allow people to camp there at that time. Fortunately, the area is surrounded by National Forest that allows dispersed camping and there are a few Forest Service campgrounds, too.
We were camping in the Featured Vehicles area again. It was relatively dry enough to allow us to set up right away. Even so, our back wheels sunk in a bit. It worked out ok for us since the rear of the Fuso is a little higher than the front.
Our campsite was next to a collection of one of a kind military vehicle based Overlanding creations. On our other side was Robert & Nina Blackwell (White Acorn). Rick and Kathy Howe (Traveling Tortugas) and Graeme & Luisa Bell (A2A) were also camping near us in the Featured Vehicles area.
We always like arriving early and watching everything go from relatively quiet to packed full. We spent a lot of time socializing and walking around talking to people.
Jon and I were teaching a couple of classes and participating in several roundtable discussions. In the late afternoon, we went to the instructors meeting.
